Hilton Head Island has been called one of the best vacation spots in the United States!

It is the second largest barrier island in the continental United States, the largest being Long Island. It is located off the South Carolina coast 20 miles northeast of Savannah, GA, and 95 miles southwest of Charleston! The island is named after Captain William Hilton, who in 1663, identified a headland near the entrance to Port Royal Sound, which he named "Hilton's Head" after himself.
The island is foot shaped and is 12 miles long and 5 miles wide with 12 miles beautiful of Atlantic Ocean beach, and has a permanent population of about 39,000! One of the unique features of the island are its gated communities, which occupy more than 70% of the island area including most of the tourists spots and beaches. However, the island does have several public beach access points!
